Compression-Deflection (ASTM D575)
Compression-Deflection (ASTM D575)
In some rubber products the level of deflection required for a rubber product is a critical aspect for the product to function as intended. Some seals are designed to be soft so that they compress more easily in certain designs/applications. The rubber needs to deform when a certain amount of pressure is applied so that the rubber conforms to the mating features and make a proper seal.
Rubber Mexico has the equipment and knowhow to take tests primarily to ASTM D575 for compression-deflection. A rubber specimen is molded and then placed in a universal tester that compresses the rubber specimens at a controlled speed. The readings of pressure and amount of deflection are precisely monitored. With this test Rubber Mexico is able to get precise numbers in regards to how much pressure is needed to compress the rubber to a certain level, and also how much the rubber deflects when a certain amount of pressure is applied. In our in house laboratory we are able to perform this test for product development, and once the optimal properties are determined we can perform this test on an ongoing basis to ensure that the products we produce in production continue to meet the defined requirements.
